A Mile of Pounds for Faversham Pools
In the 1960s the people of Faversham came together to build an outdoor swimming pool in the heart of the town. They raised funds by collecting a mile of pennies – quite a sum in 1964!
Over half a century later, Faversham Pools’ charity has been hit hard by COVID-19. We have been generously supported by Swale Borough Council and individual donations during our closure. We know we will be able to reopen in Spring 2021 but are raising funds to help essential refurbishments to plan for the next 50 years.
We’ve got so many exciting plans for the future. We need to refurbish our changing rooms, making them more suitable for families and swimmers with disabilities. And we want to enhance the much-loved outdoor pool area. But first, we are focusing on reopening – when the time is right, and when allowed by the government – and look toward to welcoming as many swimmers as possible back into the water after so long.
A mile of £1 coins is almost £70,000 – a sum that will secure the long term future of our pools. Your donation of £1 or more will help keep swimming, and this very special place, at the heart of our community.
To donate please visit our Justgiving page or text FAVERSHAM to 70085 to donate £1*.
We’ve had some wonderful support from local businesses, schools and community groups – if you can help us or know someone who can, please contact our Fundraising Manager, Megan Mousley.
